A Moment of Enlightenment
P'an-shan was a Chinese Zen master who lived in the 8th century. It is said that he once walked through a busy market in a far flung Chinese province and overheard a customer ask a butcher:
“Give some good meat.”
“Here look, there’s no meat other than good meat,” replied the butcher as he showed the customer a large piece of meat.
Zen master P'an-shan felt enlightened. He looked around him. Everything seems beautiful. He looked at the people in the market, everyone seemed to be happy. He looked at the sky, it looked good too.
He smiled and walked on.
Notes: Zen is not about some complex philosophy, it’s about everyday experiences. We see what we want to see and hear what we want to hear. If we start looking at people and things fresh each time, everything will be fine.
